Making 15, an Art Nouveau Mermaid

By the way Number 14 went in the trash!  I keep having trouble with the clay having moonies or streaks, etc.  So this is kinda a funny one the way this went down! The more I worked on the face the less I was liking it, and I kept thinking about an uncompleted figure that I was still working on the body, but the face of it was done and I thought very pretty. So, yes, you guessed it! I lopped off the head on both the mermaid and the other sculpture that I had intended as an art deco piece and put it on the mermaid! So at this point I decided to change the headpiece to something more gill looking. Here is where you see the headpiece change. I little more decorated. All finished and I can't wait to start another!

Just about done with 13, Mermaid of a Troubled Sea

All that is left is the base, the picture taking, the of writing the ad, and posting to a selling site(s).....nobody said it was gonna be an easy undertaking! 

Because it would take forever to upload the bazillion pics I have taken since my last post, I will give a link to view all the pics in an online gallery.....it documents the sculpt pretty much from start to finish!  The Japan Earthquake and Tsunami occurred a few days ago, and as I had not named her yet, I went with Mermaid of a Troubled Sea....keep good thoughts and prayers for the countess victims and their families.

At this point I could see these eyes were not set at the correct plane, so I made another set over them...lol....I looks way better!

I started working around the eyes.....to be cont'd

Starting number 13

I made the eyes and set them level into a small flatish chunk o' clay, baked the chunk and then added the lower forehead and nose bridge. I decided to bake again.....I have a hard time controlling any shape when there is so much smooshy raw clay. I just bought some living doll clay and I can tell it's not as soft as the mix I've been using, which is going to be great! This will be the first sculpture I try with Living Doll, so we'll see how it is without mixing it in with any other brand. Wish me luck!

Oh what a beauty! She actually progressed farther than this, but my computer is just running so slowwwww, I can't get anything done, and I'm in the middle of a massive sinus attack!! I'll upload the rest of the photos, and I'll be done with blogging for today!
